About Our Collection

Dorano

Having been used for making jewelry for a long time, leather offers a more versatile component for designers. Jewelers often combine the material with precious metals and gemstones to add character to it.

Stingray Leather

For this collection, we used leather that came from the top of stingrays, which has a distinct texture that resembles several sparkling pearl-like spots. This material, with proper care, should last for more than a lifetime. To care for it, you need to use a damp cloth, air drying, clear leather polish, and mild soap.

You can expect the products made from stingray leather to be of the highest quality. That is due to the amount of effort exerted in the tanning and finishing process to achieve its signature deep color and durability. The leather is also very sturdy because the tiny grains in it are rooted in the underside of the skin.

We created 30 custom-dyed colors to create different patterns for each skin. This process added to the uniqueness and exotic appeal of the material.

Note: The Stingray (fish) is not considered an endangered species.

Glaze

Enamel is a type of allochromatic glass, which is a transparent and colorless fondant formed after heating several components at temperatures between 700 and 900 degrees Celsius. These components usually include quartz sand, iron oxide, potassium oxide, and borax.

The Process

A hydrated mass is formed (fondant) after thoroughly crushing and washing the materials. The mass is then applied on a suitable and completely clean metal (typically gold, silver, or copper alloys). The thermal expansions of these materials primarily dictate the choice of metal and fondant.

When the thermal expansion of the metal and the fondant has a considerable interval, the result usually is cracking and/or peeling off of the vitreous surface. If this happens, the enameling process needs to be restarted with more suitable components.

An experienced enameller will try to avoid this as much as possible by thorough experimentation after the hydrated fondant is applied to the metal that it needs to dry. During this cooling, the enamel may shrink and resulting gaps will siècle.
